Overview
Overland tour from Lhasa to Kathmandu via Mount Everest Base Camp can be complete within 7 Days due to the well-paved road in remote regions and the newly opened border Gyirong between Tibet and Nepal. We will pass through spectacular mountain peaks, beautiful holy lakes, numerous Tibetan settlements, and ancient monasteries. This overland trip is very popular among travellers.
Itinerary Day by Day
Day 01 Arrive at Lhasa for acclimatization by air or train
Today's highlights:
Airport/train station transfer to hotel, Acclimatize to the High Altitude.
Details:
Fly into Lhasa or arrive in Lhasa by train. Local guide will meet you and transfer you to Lhasa. On the way, you can appreciate the heart-beating highland view along the Yarlong Tsangpo river (the longest river in Tibet and highest river on the earth with an average altitude of 4,000 meters), originating from Jiemayangzong Glacier on the northern Himalayas.
Day 02 Sightseeing in Lhasa
Today's highlights:
Potala Palace, Jokhang temple, Barkhor Street
Details:
Today, you will visit the highest palace in the world-Potala Palace which is the Dalai Lama's winter palace. It locates on the red hill, a good viewing point in Lhasa.
In the afternoon, we go to the renowned Jokhang Temple which will provide you one of your first sights of devout Tibetans. In the temple you will see the glistening Sakyamuni statue which is considered as Tibetan Buddhism's rarity.
After then, stroll around the bustling Barkhor Street.
Day 03 Lhasa-Yamdrok Yumtso-Gyantse-Shigatse

Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, Pelkhor Monastery, Kumbum Stupa, Tashilhunpo Monastery, Village Family Visit
Details:
About hundred kilometers, you will appreciate the holy Lake of Yamdrok Yumtso Lake.The sacred lake of Yamdrok Yutso is revered as a talisman, supporting the life-spirit of Tibet. It is said that should its waters dry, Tibet will no longer be habitable.
Drive to Gyantse to visit the Pelkhor monastery for its famous Kumbum Pagoda.
On the way to Shigates have a mountain village family visit for a glimpse of everyday Tibetan life. Head to Shigatse to visit Tashilhunpo Monastery which is Panchen Lama's seat place.
Day 04 Shigatse-Mount Everest Base Camp

Rongbuk Monastery, Mount Everest Base Camp
Details:
After hours of driving we arrive at the highest monastery of the world, the Rongbuk monastery. Upon arrival, take carriage or hike to Mt. Everest Base Camp. You can appreciate the spectacular Himalayan and the highest mountain in the world-Mount Everest.
Since you will stay overnight at EBC or Rongbuk guesthouse, you will have great chance to see the sunset of Mount Everest.
Day 05 Mount Everest Base Camp-Old Tingri

Get up early in the morning to appreciate the sunrise of Mt. Everest if you are lucky enough.
Mt. Everest, called Mount Chomolungma in Tibetan Language, is the highest peak of the Earth and probably the most coveted mountain in adventurous travelers’ eyes.
Journey to Mt. Everest Base Camp is a both physical as well as psychological challenge to you --5200mt (17000ft), but it will definitely reward you with the most unparalleled views – a panorama of Himalayan peaks - and never-forgotten beautiful memories.
Day 06 Old Tingri-Gyirong

Himalayan Mountain Range, Lake Paiku Tso
Details:
Pass through the natural sceneries like Lake Paiku Tso and Mt. Shishapangma (8020m), also called Gosainthan which are unimaginable beautiful, nomads chasing herd of yaks and sheeps keep you wondering.
Paiku-tso, a salt lake is 27km long and 6km wide at its narrowest point. Surrounded by rugged mountains on three sides that reach altitudes in excess of 5,725 meters, numerous small streams drain into the lake. Streams fed by glaciers cascade to the valley floor south of Lake Paiku, but only a few streams actually reach the lake. It’s a cobalt lake which the glacial streams of the Da-chu and Lha-chu drain has no stream outlet. The lake’s original name, Pelkhyung or Pad Khyung, meaning "glorious garuda" suggest early associations with the Bon tradition.
You can enjoy the panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains along the way.
Day 07 Gyirong-Nepal Rasuwa Border-Kathmandu

Drive to the new border Gyirong-Rasuwa border and go through the China customs to Kathmandu, Nepal.
Tour guide will assist you to check out of the border. End the tour at the border. We can help you arrange an overland transfer between Kyilong border and Kathmandu. Please make the reservation in advance through your trip advisor. Different price according to differnt group size.
