Overview
The majority of this trip will be spent traveling the Friendship Highway, home to some of the most breathtaking scenery this side of heaven. Along this journey we will pass through spectacular mountain peaks, numerous Tibetan settlements, and more ancient monasteries than you could imagine. We will have plenty of opportunities to explore this wealth of natural and cultural allure.
The highlights of this trip are Yamdrok Tso, Mt. Everest Base Camp and Namtso.The sheer brilliance of this mountain is something which must be seen first hand to be truly appreciated. You will be blown away by its beauty and astronomic size.This Tibet trip will guarantee to be the memory of a lifetime.
Itinerary Day by Day
Day 01 Arrive at Lhasa for acclimatization by air or train
Today's highlights:
Airport/train station transfer to hotel, Acclimatize to the High Altitude.
Details:
Fly into Lhasa or arrive in Lhasa by train. Local guide will meet you and transfer you to Lhasa. On the way, you can appreciate the heart-beating highland view along the Yarlong Tsangpo river (the longest river in Tibet and highest river on the earth with an average altitude of 4,000 meters), originating from Jiemayangzong Glacier on the northern Himalayas.
Day 02 Sightseeing in Lhasa
Today's highlights:
Potala Palace, Jokhang temple, Barkhor Street
Details:
Today, you will visit the highest palace in the world-Potala Palace which is the Dalai Lama's winter palace. It locates on the red hill, a good viewing point in Lhasa.
In the afternoon, we go to the renowned Jokhang Temple which will provide you one of your first sights of devout Tibetans. In the temple you will see the glistening Sakyamuni statue which is considered as Tibetan Buddhism's rarity.
After then, stroll around the bustling Barkhor Street.
Day 03 Sightseeing in Lhasa
Today's highlights:
Drepung Monastery, Sera Debating, Norbulingka
Details:
Morning time will be spent visiting Drepung monastery which is on the hillside west of Lhasa. Drepung is a Gelugpa monastery. To reach it, you have to climb up a small hill which will be a kind of interesting.
Later, we will go to visit the Sera monastery where lively lama debating will be seen (except Sundays). This is very interesting. Many lamas sitting or standing in the yard debate a certain topic their teacher has given.
Rest time would be spent in Norbulinka which is Dalai Lama's summer palace.
Day 04 Lhasa - Yamdrok Tso - Gyantse - Shigatse
Today's highlights:
Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, Karola Glacier, Pelkhor Monastery, Kumbum Stupa
Details:
About hundred kilometers, you will appreciate the holy Lake of Yamdrok Yumtso Lake.The sacred lake of Yamdrok Yutso is revered as a talisman, supporting the life-spirit of Tibet. It is said that should its waters dry, Tibet will no longer be habitable.
On the way to Gyantse, have a look at the Karola Glacier. Visit the Pelkhor monastery for its famous Kumbum Pagoda.
Day 05 Shigatse - Tingri - Mt. Everest - Rongbuk
Today's highlights:
Ronbuk Monastery
Details:
Drive to Lhatse where tourists can take lunch, then go ahead to Shegar and if the weather is clear enough, you can view the Mt. Everest - highest moutain in the world.
Pass through Pang la Pass, one of the highest passes in Tibet at elevation of 5,050m. From that pass, you'll view five highest peaks in the world. After 4 to 6 hours, arrive at Rongbuk monastery - highest monastery in the world.
Day 06 Rongbuk - Everest Base Camp - Shigatse
Today's highlights:
Mt. Everest Base Camp
Details;
In the morning, you can appreciate the sunrise of Mt. Everest, and have a full view of the magnificent mountain. You can try to hike 4km from the tent to Everest Base Camp, or go to EBC by local bus. After the trip to EBC, we drive back to Shigatse to have a good rest.
Day 07 Shigatse - Lhasa
Today's highlights:
Tashilhunpo Monastery, Brahmaputra River
Details:
Today, we firstly explore Tashilunpo Monastery which is belonging to Gelug Sect, also the seat of Panchen Lama. Built in 1447, the monastery houses a giant statue of the Maitreya Buddha - the biggest gilded statue of Maitreya - Buddha of the Future in the
world and a tomb of all the Panchen Lama, containing jewels and gold.
In the afternoon, drive 6hrs around back to Lhasa along Yarlong Tsangpo River also knowns as Brahmaputra.
Day 08 Lhasa - Namtso
Today's highlights:
Nyenchen Thanglha Snow Mountains, Lake Namtso
Details:
In the morning, we drive from Lhasa to the holy lake Namtso via Damxung. Along the road, you can see Nyenchen Thanglha Snow Mountain Ranges and lots of nomads tent with grazing yak and sheep densely-populated around the mountain side.
Lake Namtso is the Heavenly Lake which is one of the four holy lakes of Tibet and also the highest salt lake. You can do a very relaxing trekking around the lake side and Tashi Island.
Tonight, we'll spend a night at lake shore which is fantastic to appreciate the starry sky.
Day 09 Namtso - Lhasa
Today's highlights:
Tashi Dor Island, Yangpachen Hot Spring
Details:
Appreciate the clear morning of the holy lake. You can trek along the lake shore to Tashi Dor Island to explore the meditation caves. Drive to Dumxung to have lunch.
In the afternoon on the way back to Lhasa, you can enjoy the Yangpachen hot spring (Optional) and have both indoor and outdoor swimming pool filled with hot spring water.
Day 10 Bid farewell to Tibet
Today's highlights:
Transfer from hotel to airport or train station, Say goodbye to Lhasa
Details:
Our guide will meet you at your hotel, and you will be transferred to Gonggar Airport or Lhasa Railway Station to take flight or train out of Lhasa.
