Itinerary Day by Day

Day 01 Take the Lhasa Express Sky Train from Xining into Tibet

Take the train to Tibet to appreciate the breathtaking plateau scenery along the world's highest railway.

Details:

Arrive in Xining Railway Station at least 30min. to 1hour prior to departure. Show the original train tickets and copies of your Tibet Travel Permit to board the train K9801 from Xining to Lhasa. See the latest Tibet train schedule, frequency and train ticket price.

The sky train will cross the Qinghai-Tibet plateau. You will see many snow-caped mountains, some peaks are even more than 6,000 meters. Tanggula Peak is close to the Tanggula Pass alt. 5,100m which is the source of Lhasa River which will empty into the larger Yarlung Tsangpo River(the longest river in Tibet and highest river on the earth with an average altitude of 4,000 meters), also called Brahmaputra river originating from Jiemayangzong Glacier on the northern Himalayas. While passing through the Hol Xil Natural Reserve, you can see the endangered species like Tibetan antelope, wild yak, wild donkey and other wildlife rare to see.

Day 02 Arrive at Lhasa for acclimatization

Train station transfer to hotel, acclimatize to the High Altitude.

Details:

Arrive at Lhasa railway station. Local guide will meet you and transfer you to Lhasa city alt. 3,680m.

The rest time is free on your own. You'd better stay in the hotel for a good rest after the train journey, but open the window to let the air flow into the room. Drink more mineral water.

Maybe you want to stroll around the old town. Just walk slowly. Never do any heavy activities today.

Day 03 Sightseeing in Lhasa

Potala Palace, Moya Rock Carving of Chakpori Hill-Yaowangshan, Jokhang temple, Barkhor Street

Details:

Today, you will visit the highest palace in the world-Potala Palace which is the Dalai Lama's winter palace. It locates on the red hill, a good viewing point in Lhasa.

Chakpori Hill-Yaowangshan is a ideal location to take pictures of Potala Palace. Many photographers get up very early to shoot the amazing view of Potala Palace when sun rises. At the back of the hill, is Moya Rock Carving, thousands of figures of Buddha, gods in different poses, and Buddhist scripture in Tibetan characters are engraved on the cliff.

In the afternoon, we go to the renowned Jokhang Temple which will provide you one of your first sights of devout Tibetans. In the temple you will see the glistening Sakyamuni statue which is considered as Tibetan Buddhism's rarity.

After then, stroll around the bustling Barkhor Street.

Day 04 Lhasa-Namtso-Lhasa

Changtang Grassland, Local Nomads Family Visit, Holy Lake Namtso, Tashi Dor Island and Small Monastery

Details:

Appreciate Changtang Grassland along the way to Namtso alt. 4,718m. You will pass by many nomads living in black yak hair tents. This is one of the best places in Tibet to see traditional Tibetan life. You can see many herders with their yaks. Stop at the nomad camps to have a local nomad family visit and spend time with the local nomads who live there.

Namtso Lake was selected as one of the five most beautiful lakes by National Geography Magazine. Namtso's touching beauty should not be missed by any travelers who visit Tibet. Its purity and solemnness are symbols of Qinghai-Tibet Platean. In Tibetan, Namtso means 'Heavenly Lake'. The water here is a storybook crystal-clear blue. Clear skies join the surface of the lake in the distance, creating an integrated, scenic vista.

Besides the beautiful scenery in Namtso, it is also a famous sacred Buddhist place. There's a small monastery on Tashi Dor Island which is located at the southeastern corner of the heavenly lake. At summer time birds like Ruddy shelduck Phalacrocorax migrate to the lake area, besides the fields of astragalus, roegneria nutans and marram grass.

Special note: weather at Namtso is subject to abrupt sudden change and snowstorms are very common across the Mountain Nyenchen Tanglha range.

Day 05 Lhasa-Yamdrok Yumtso-Gyantse-Shigatse

Details:

About hundred kilometers via Kamba La mountain pass alt. 4,999m, you will appreciate the holy Lake of Yamdrok Yumtso Lake.The sacred lake of Yamdrok Yutso is revered as a talisman, supporting the life-spirit of Tibet. It is said that should its waters dry, Tibet will no longer be habitable.

Drive to Gyantse to visit the Pelkhor monastery for its famous Kumbum Pagoda passing through Karola Glacier alt. 5,050m.

On the way to Shigates alt. 3,840m, have a mountain village family visit for a glimpse of everyday Tibetan life. Head to Shigatse to visit Tashilumpo Monastery which is Panchen Lama's seat place.

Day 06 Shigatse-Shegar/New Tingri-Mount Everest Base Camp

Rongbuk Monastery, Mount Everest Base Camp

Details:

After Shigatse, we'll drive on the very tough road from Shegar-New Tingri to EBC, passing the wild grassland and crossing the rapids river, high mountains. At Tingri Sightseeing Platform of Pang La mountain pass alt. 5,120m, you will have a glimpse of 4 great mountains over 8,000m, i.e. Mt. Makalu with alt. 8,481m, Mt. Lhotse 8,516m, Mt. Everest 8,844m, Mt. Cho Oyu 8,201m from left to right.

After hours of driving we arrive at the highest monastery of the world, the Rongbuk monastery alt. 4,980m. Upon arrival, take carriage or hike to Mt. Everest Base Camp alt. 5,200m. You can appreciate the spectacular Himalayan and the highest mountain in the world-Mount Everest.

Since you will stay overnight at EBC or Rongbuk guesthouse, you will have a great chance to see the sunset of Mount Everest.

Day 07 Mount Everest Base Camp-Old Tingri-Zhangmu

Get up early in the morning to appreciate fabulous and splendid sunrise of Mt. Everest if you are lucky enough on a clear crystal day.

Go ahead west to Zhangmu via Old Tingri alt. 4,200m and Nyalam alt. 3,900m. Along the Himalayan Mountain Range, you can enjoy the panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains.

We'll stay overnight in the lovely border town-Zhangmu alt. 2,300m tonight.

Day 08 Zhangmu-Nepal Border-Kathmandu

Border Transfer from Kodari to Kathmandu 

Details:

Leave Zhangmu border town for Friendship Bridge and go through the China customs. Our guide will see you off at the Kodari of Tibet border side. 

After Tibet border you need to walk on your own to cross the 50m border bridge to check in Nepal customs. Nepal visa is easy to get upon arrival with 30USD/p.p. Don't forget to prepare one photo at passport size to get the Nepalese Visa. 

Just 50 meters ahead, you can find many cars or buses towards Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal. Around 50USD to have a taxi to Kathmandu. A bus seat only costs 1USD. The road is rather bad especially during the rainy season, it will cost you 5hrs around to arrive although it's just 120km. If you want our private border transfer service from Kodari to Kathmandu alt. 1,300m, please inform your travel consultant to get a private car at 140USD.

Day 09 Kathmandu

Details:

Durbar Square lies in the heart of Kathmandu city. It's one of three durbar (royal palace) squares in the Kathmandu Valley. If you are lucky enough, you can see the real living goddess, Kumari Devi who is a girl lives in Kumari Bahal next to Durbar Square.

Pasupatinath Temple in east Kathmandu is one of the holiest shrines for both Hindus ad Buddhists. Famous for trinity gods of Hinduism like Shiva Brahma and Vishnu respectively.It is also the part of the World Cultral Heritage Site of UNESCO as Durbar Sqaure. The temple has remained the presiding deity of ruling Nepalese Royalty.

Boudhanath Mahachaitya is located in Boudha to the northeastern of Kathmandu. It is a famous holy place for Buddhist. Boudhanath Stupa was built arount 5th century. There are more than 45 Boudha Stupas in this area.

Day 10 Kathmandu-Chitwan

Adventure in Royal Chitwan National Park

Details:

In the morning, we drive to Chitwan National Forest Park. Upon arrival, lunch will be served, rooms assigned and there will be a short briefing on the program and our facilities. In the afternoon, we'll start our adventure exploration in the forest.

- Elephant-Back Safari: Guests will ride on an elephant to explore the jungle and wildlife. You will be able to see the one-horned rhinoceros, several types of deer, monkeys, wild boar, bison, sloth bear, leopard and, if lucky, the Royal Bengal tiger. This exciting ride lasts for 2-3 hours.

After dinner slide presentation. Your jungle expert will introduce background data and history of the Royal Chitwan National Park as well as some other topics relating to wildlife.

Day 11 Chitwan

Details:

We continue our jungle adventure exploration in Royal Chitwan National Park today.

Elephant Briefing Program: Learn more about these fascinating animals during a visit to elephant stables. There is even a crash course in riding and leading the elephants if you are brave enough.

Canoeing: A traditional dug-out canoe takes you on a silent trip down the Rapti river to view aquatic birds and the animals of the river banks. Back to resort through the Jungle.

Tharu Stick Dance: Farmers of the nearby villages will show some of their traditional skills and dances.

Day 12 Chitwan-Pokhara

After 5 hours' driving distance, we arrive in Pokhara valley.

The best months to visit Devi's Fall is June, July, August and September. Devi's Fall is also called Patale Chahngo by local people. Lying 2km southwestern of Pokhara Valley, its water is from Fewa Lake.

Fewa Lake is the second largest lake in Nepal. Boating on Fewa lake to appreciate the famous reflection of Mount Machapuchare Peak, also called Fish Tail Peak on its surface.

Day 13 Pokhara-Nagarkot

Drive back to Kathmandu. Transfer to Nagarkot, a perfect rustic resort high on the northern fringe of Kathmandu valley, which is an outstanding hilltop provides an excellent and breathtaking views of the huge Himalayan range peaks such as Choyu, Shishpangma, Langtang, Manaslu, Gauri Shankar, Ganesh, Dorje Lakpa, even Mt. Everest on a clear crystal day.

You are suggested to come to Nagarkot in the afternoon to stay overnight for the next day's sunrise over the Himalaya peaks especially the spectacular view of Mt. Everest from Nepal side can be seen on a clear day.

Day 14 Nagarkot-Kathmandu

Bhaktapur, surrounded by mountains, a great place to see the magnificent view of the Himalayas, is filled with monuments, most terra-cotta with carved wood columns, palaces and temples with elaborate carvings, gilded roofs, open courtyards.

Patan is one of 3 Royal cities in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal and a center of fine art and Buddhist and Hindu culture.

Concentration of the narrow Thamel streets are lined with small shops selling almost everything from food and provisions to clothes, walking gear, cakes, pastries, music, DVDs, handicrafts, hotels etc.
