Itinerary Day by Day

Day 1: Arrive in Kashgar

Pick you up and transfer to hotel

Details:

Arrive in Kashgar by air, train or land. Our guide will meet you and pick you up. Transfer to your hotel to have a good rest.

Tips:

The clock time in Xinjiang is the same as Beijing Time, but there is 2-hour difference because of the longitude. You should adjust your rest and dinning time 2 hours later as compared with that in mainland China.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kashgar

Details:

Drive to Karakuri Lake, a very beautiful lake and the Muztagata Mountain ,the unusual shape of the mountain covered in snow all year round, it associated with Chinese legend appears to have been divided into two parts, which is especially nice in the summer, when the flowers on the trees bloom.

Day 3: Sightseeing in Kashgar

Abakh Hoja Tomb, Id Kah Mosque

Details:

Visit Abakh Hoja Tomb, a tomb of Uygur woman living Qing Dynasty who was forced to marry the Qianlong Emperor. However, the tomb is actually the tomb of her grandfather and his family including Xiangfei. After that, we will vist the Id Kah Mosque built in 1442 for Shakesirmirzha, the ruler of Kashgar, it is the largest mosque in China and the religious center of Kashgar. The call to Prayer booming from the mosque can be heard throughout the city center.

Day 4: Kashgar-Urumqi

Details:

The local famous Sunday Bazaar has been operating since ancient times, and the scale has become larger and larger, attracting merchants from all over Xinjiang and neighboring countries such as Pakistan and Kirghizstan. Farmers from the suburbs of Kashi come to the bazaar early in the morning, using various means of transportation, such as bicycles, motorcycles, tractors, trucks and donkey-drawn carts. The highways leading to Kashgar are crowded with these vehicles and pedestrians on Sunday mornings, as well as with flocks of sheep.

Kaxgar Ancient City is an old city, located at the north of new Kashgar city area. Compare to the modern society it still owns its special charm of long history. 'Kaxgar' means 'colorful city' in Uygur language, although it is dusty and damaged now but it must be a colorful and wonderful city thousands years ago.

Transfer to Kashgar airport to fly to Urumqi. Our guide in Urumqi will meet you at Diwopu Airport. You will be transferred to your hotel for accommodation.

Day 5: Urumqi-Tianchi (Heavenly Lake)-Urumqi

Tian Chi, Grand Bazaar

Details:

Drive to Tianchi (Heavenly Lake), a marvelous view of mountain lake formed more than million years ago in the 4th glacial epoch. It is famed as the "Jewel in the Crown". The pine trees covering the hillsides and the snow capped mountains in the background make the huge clear water spectacular sight-reminiscent of Switzerland or the Rocky mountains but somehow with more vibrancy and color. Bogda Peak-the highest peak stands to the east of the lake in the east part of Tianshan Mountain which is capped by glacier and snow glistening in the sun, finely contrasted with blue lake water, forming fabulous scenery. Ramble around the Grand Bazaar after back to Urumqi city.

Day 6: Urumqi-Turpan

Gaochang Ruin, Astana Graves, Tuyugou Great Canyon

Details:

Our destination today is the oasis town-Turpan. We will visit Gaochang Ruin, the Uygur city-state around the 9th century to the 13th, which was founded a few hundred years earlier than that, and gradually became known as a trading post on the Silk Road. Astana Graves, where the dead of Gaochang were buried. The ancient tombs are clearly zoned according to families and castes with natural stones. Located in the Gobi Desert in the north of Gaochang, 40 kilometers away from Turpan city. At the Ancient Tombs of Astana, thousands of treasure historical relics had been unearthed, including mummy, writing, inscription, painting, earthen figurine, stone wares, pottery wares, wood wares, bronze wares, iron wares, gold wares, silver wares, cotton, silk, wool, ancient coins and so on. Therefore, the Ancient Tombs of Astana is called the "Gaochang's live history record and underground museum in the Turpan area.

"Tuyugou Great Canyon" 47km from Turpan city in the west and 13km from the Gaochang Ancient City in the southwest. Among the canyons in the Flame Mountain which extends nearly one hundred kilometers, the Tuyugou Great Canyon is the canyon with the longest culture and the most mighty and majestic natural landscapes.

Day 7: Turpan-Dunhuang

Emin Minaret, also called Sugong Tower is the biggest ancient pagoda existing in Xinjiang and the only Islamic ancient pagoda in ChinaToday's highlights:

Grape Valley, Karez Well, Emin Minaret, Transfer to Turpan Railway Station for the train T190 to Dunhuang

Details:

In Turpan, the Grape Valley, a narrow valley, only eight kilometers long and half kilometer wide is famous for its production of peaches, apricots, apples, pomegranates, watermelons and musk melons. Also, only in Turpan, you can find the Karez Well, the underground canal. It is one of the three greatest irrigation systems in ancient China together with the Jinghang Manmade Cannel, and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.

Suleiman's Minaret, the Sugong Tower is the biggest ancient pagoda existing in Xinjiang and the only Islamic ancient pagoda in the country. It is located at the Munage village, 2 kilometers away from the Turpan city in the east.

At night, take the train T215/218 at 22:43 to Dunhuang.

Day 8: Dunhuang Sightseeing

Pick you up at Dunhuang Train Station, Mogao Grottoes, Mingsha Mountain-Yueya Spring

Details:

Arrive in Dunhuang Railway Station at 10:48 a.m.

After breakfast we go to visit the Mogao Grottoes also known as Thousand Buddha Cave is one of three noted grottoes in China and also the largest, best preserved and richest treasure house of Buddhist art in the world. Despite years of erosion, the murals are still brightly colored, with clear lines. Through pictures of different styles and schools drawn in different historical periods, they tell Buddhist stories and ways as well as life in the secular world.

Then, we go to Mingsha Mountain and Yueya Spring. The sand storms at Mingsha Mountain are said to create almost melodic sounds as millions of minute particles bounce and rub. Countless Silk Road travelers, nomads, merchants and tourists today have quenched their thirsts at Yueya Spring or called Crescent Lake.

After dinner you can have a night walking at Shazhou Night Market.

Day 9: Dunhuang-Xi'an

Transfer to Dunhuang Airport for the flight to Xi'an, Greater Wild Goose Pagoda, Ancient City Walls

Details:

Transfer to airport to take the flight CZ6895 (10:25-12:45) to Xi'an.

Pick you up at Xi'an Xianyang Airport. Visit Greater Wild Goose Pagoda (Da Yan Ta) located in the Temple of Great Maternal Grace (Daci'en Si) complex. It's the number one tourist attraction in Xi'an before the Terracotta Warriors were unearthed.

Ancient City Walls could be dated back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), though they attained their present brick-faced form in 1568 and several sections have been recently rebuilt.

Day 10: Xi'an Sightseeing

Details:

Visit Terra Cotta Warriors which rank among the world's top archaeological finds and the eighth miracles in the world. This incredible collection of well over 6,000 figures was accidentally unearthed by a group of peasants trying to dig a well in 1974. Instead of water, they found a 2,000-year-old statue of a warrior made to protect the tomb of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the founder of the Qin Dynasty and the first man to rule over a unified China. Fast-forward thirty-some years and the emperor's underground army has become an enormously popular tourist destination, even as archaeologists continue to painstakingly excavate and preserve the fragile statues.

Huaqing Chi hot springs situated at the foot of Lishan (Mount Li) have been in use for around 2,500 years; the mineral-rich waters bubbling up from the earth have soothed emperors dating back to the notorious Qin Shihuang, and during the Tang Dynasty they became a primary imperial summer residence. Shaanxi Historical Museum, situated at the western side of the "Wild Goose Pagoda", is a large-scale modern State-class museum. It covers an area of about 70,000 square meters, the architectural area of which is 55,000 odd square meters.

Day 11: Leave Xi'an
