Lodging and Eating FAQ
Can I book a hotel from your company? I just need the hotel booking, no other service.
Yes, we are glad to offer you the hotel booking service. You just need to tell us the hotel names which you want to book, then we will do the next for you. But Tibet is an exception. For entering Tibet, you will need a Tibet permit, we can only offer a package tour.
Is internet access available in China?
For most major hotels in China, they will provide such service. Some are free, some are with reasonable fees. But for some adventure tours, you may have to stay in some remote areas, internet access is not available. We will give you a clear description of the hotels you will stay after your tour booking.
What’s the hotel condition like in Tibet?
The newer hotels have been built away from the city center in order to protect the city history and environment. These hotels have central heating which is used in winter but no cooling systems are available in summer. We would still warn that the facilities and service standard may not be as you would expect from a hotel with this rating in other parts of the world. Older hotels located in the city have a good location but will not provide the level of comfort of the newer hotels and may not have any central heating. The level of service and facilities may be quite basic. Staff will probably not speak much English. Hotels in small cities and towns and the Everest area are very basic. They will usually have a public bathroom with squat toilet.
Can you explain what the guesthouse, comfortable hotel and best available hotel are?
- Guesthouse has a few kinds. One is the twin room with or without private bathroom. The other is triple or four-bed rooms. When it comes more than 4 beds, it’s named dormitory which have no private bathroom.
- Comfortable hotels refer to mid-class hotels, or standard hotels in terms of its location, price or general services. In remote places, they are usually 3 star hotels, or comparatively good 2 star hotels.
- The best available hotels are the 5 star or 4 star where the 5 star hotels are not available. Even if you are traveling in some remote places, the hotel should be the best around that region.
What are the hotel rooms like in Tibet?
Usually, in one room, there are two beds. We address that twin-sharing room. Some big and fancy hotels might have queen (or king) bed room and some even have triple room. But you should be aware that the number of queen bed room and triple is very limited. Twin-sharing room (with two beds inside) is commonly adopted by agency in Tibet.
Is there 24-hour hot water running?
In mainland China, it is guaranteed. But in Tibet, due to basic infrastructure, with the poor pressure, sometimes the water flow may small and is not hot but just warm. In remote regions, the condition would be even worse.
Do I need you to arrange all of my meals? Can I eat by myself?
We will never force you to use every of our service. It is depending on your needs. For your convenience, you can choose to book your breakfast / breakfast+lunch / breakfast+lunch+dinner with us. Or you can choose no meals booking with us. But, for most hotels, the breakfast has already included in the room rate, it is better eat in the hotel.
That is definitely okay to find the ’right’ restaurant by yourselves. You can ask for some suggestions from our local guides.
Will you arrange local foods?
To enjoy the Chinese food is a big part for a Chinese trip. In our menu, we will arrange different types of meals during your trip. Usually one or twice local foods will be offered.
