Travel Information
Alien Travel Permit (PSB)
Alien Travel Permit is granted by the PSB for travel to certain areas such as Gyantse, Sakya, Tsetang, Shigatse and EBC etc. Lhasa PSB doesn’t issue travel permits to individuals. You need to get the PSB permits through agencies. It is regulated by the official that you can only get the Alien Travel Permits through booking a tour with agencies.
- Areas require PSB permits:
- Tsetang: all the places you will visit such as Samye, Yumbulhagang, Trundruk etc.
- Shigates: Sakya, Mt. Everest, Rongbuk Monastery
- Gyantse: Pelkhor Chode Monastery, Kubum Stupa
- Ngari: all the places you will visit such as Mt. Kailash, Lake Manasorovar etc.
- Nyingtri: all the places you will visit such as Draksumtso, Pomi etc.
- Chamdo: all the places you will visit such as Chamdo, Riwoche etc.
- How to get the PSB permits:
- The biggest difference for applying a PSB with a TTB is that we can help you to apply a TTB without your passport, just a copy one is okay. But for obtaining the PSB, your original passport is a must! Please check below to see what is the common procedure to get a PSB: Usually, upon your arrival in Lhasa and check in the hotel on the first day, our tour guide will ask for your original passports and Tibet Permits, and go to the Public Security Bureau to apply on the second day, you can get the PSB at the same day. You don’t have to come in person.
- Exceptional Cases:
- If you only travel to Lhasa, Gyantse or Shigatse, it's not necessary to get the PSB permits. If you want to travel overland from Yunnan, Sichuan, Qinghai or Xinjiang province, besides the passport and visa copies, we must get your Entry Stamps to apply for the the permits at least 7 days prior to departure.
