Airfare of Flights Leaving Lhasa Drop Sharply
AIRFARE of flights departing from Lhasa, capital of Tibet, plummeted in the off season with some airlines offering a 50 percent discount.
"Days ago, we began selling tickets with a 60 percent discount for flights from Lhsas to Chengdu, capital of west China's Sichuan Province" said a staff with the Tibet Branch of Air China on Thursday. "Now with increased ticket sales these days, we've cancelled tickets with such a big discount."
The staff added that though such low-priced tickets were no longer available, it cost 900 yuan (132 U.S. dolars) only to fly from Lhasa to Chengdu on Oct.17. Compared with full rate tickets before the holiday, it is much lower.
Meanwhile, the Lhasa Business Office of China Southern Airlines offers tickets of flights from Lhasa to Chongqing with a 55 percent discount. The post-holiday ticket sales have dropped substantially, said a staff.
Furthermore, due to the decreasing number of passengers, China Easten Airlines became the only airline operating the flight from Lhasa to Xi'an, capital of west China's Shaanxi Province.
At present, there is only one flight between the two cities each day with tickets sold at the full price. Tickets with a 30 percent discount are available for the only daily flight between Lhasa and Kunming, capital of west China's Yunnan Province.
