Namtso and Nyenchen Tanglha, Lovers in Northern Tibet
NAMTSO Lake, 240 km north of Lhasa, capital city of Tibet, is the highest salt lake in the world. The lake covers an area of 1,940 sq m and is located at an altitude of more than 4,700 m.
The snow-capped Nyenchen Tanglha mountain range lies to the south of Namtso Lake. The peak of the mountain range, also named Nyenchen Tanglha, is 7,162 m, the highest in the mid-Tibet area.
Legend has it that Namtso Lake and Mount Nyenchen Tanglha are lovers: the vast and clear surface of the lake reflects the high mountain, and the snow on the mountain melts to supply water for the lake.
Nowadays, Namtso Lake has become a key tourism spot in northern Tibet, with more and more tourists drawn to appreciate the magnificent view of the lake and the mountain by its side.
